There are some festivals right here in the state of North Carolina that are known to draw RV campers from all over the southeast and even farther in some cases. You can enjoy the outdoors as well as some great music and activities at the same time. If you’re thinking of trying out camping at one of these festivals, you can find travel trailers for sale in NC at Out of Doors Mart. But the real question is, of all the festivals that take place throughout the year, which ones are truly worth an RV road trip?

  1. MerleFestApril 25-28, 2019. A musical festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, MerleFest features music referred to as “traditional plus” in honor of Eddy Merle Watson. “Traditional plus” music is a combination of traditional Appalachian music, which is mostly bluegrass, and other genres such as country, blues, rock, and other styles. A 4-day festival, people come from miles around and often camp in RVs and tents for the duration. You’ll find delicious food and drinks from local eateries, breweries, and wineries. Purchase tickets here
  2. Grandfather Mountain Highland Games—July 11-14, 2019. Celebrate your Scottish roots or those of your Scottish friends at the Highland Games on MacRae Meadows at Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC. Enjoy traditional Scottish music, dance, games, food, drinks, and more. Herd some sheep, taste some whiskey, run the mountain marathon, watch and learn traditional dances, and watch the clans duke it out in the tugs-of-war. There are plenty of activities for the kids as well, such as the border collie demonstration, face painting, tug-of-war, and more.
  3. Carolina Balloon Festival—October 18-20, 2019. For 45 years and counting, hot air balloon pilots and enthusiasts have been gathering in Statesville, NC to demonstrate their craft. The history of hot air ballooning in Statesville goes back to 1961 when the first founders of the concept got started in an empty chicken house in Iredell County. Now the annual festival features hundreds of hot air balloons that lift off from the very same fields where the first ballooners began. RV camping is available in the area for those who wish to be a part of the festival while enjoying the beautiful fall weather.
